HOW TO RECOGNIZE VICES and VIRTUES
There are four malefic and tamasic planets: Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu that cause Bandhana, a Sanskrit term for Jail, capturing, confining, detention, custody, imprisonment or prison.
The place that these malefics and tamasic planets can cause most harm is in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th. and 12th houses. If a malefic combination involves the Lagna (1st house), then it is a physical bandhana. If the bandhana is from a debilitated Moon then the harm will be from a mental bandhana. Any planet conjunct with malefics in these houses will suffer from bandhana according to the nature of the planets. I the bandhna is from Mars in the 12th house then there will be jail when that 12th house is transited by Mars. particukarly when running the Mars Dasha.
Example: Debbi asked if she would marry again. Her chart indicated she might meet Mr. Right in a year. 18 months later she called to say she had met a man, on time, 6-months earlier. who might be Mr. Right. So we decided I should caste his chart. ,,,His chart indicated he was very rich: that Debbi confirmed saying, ” His family is so rich in Lahore, “He is chauvinistic, so do not expect top billing and he is going to jail. so maybe you don’t want to marry him”

The four malefic planets:
Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu cause the 4 types of bandha.
Vir Bandha is caused by Mars, the karaka of war, fighting, soldiers and Anger. Poorly placed Mars will prompt anger to rise in people, anger which will come deserved or undeserved from the situation. Planets associated with Mars can show who the anger comes from or what the anger may be about. Mars may prompt challenges from the police, soldiers, or other militants.
Proper direction of appropriate outrage can result in determination to remedy injustice.

War: The quest for Power and the bombing of Innocent Civilians
Adolf Hitler –
Planetary war: When a true planet is within 1 degree of another true planet, a planetary war takes place. It is as if they are fighting for territory, and even the victor of the war gets bloodied. (The victor is the planet having higher latitude and/or brightness.) [Note: Planetary wars never involve the Sun, Moon, Rahu, or Ketu.]
Another way that signs are used by Vedic astrologers is to assess the stability of planets.
When a planet is in its sign of exaltation or debilitation, that planet becomes unstable, exaggerated in influence, and therefore the themes of the houses it occupies, rules, and aspects as well as those of the planets it aspects become destabilized.

A good example is the chart of Adolph Hitler. In his seventh house, he had the exalted Sun in Aries – as well as a planetary war between Venus and Mars – and his primary relationships, the people he was closest to, and he himself, were very unstable, and he and his generals were exaggerated in self-importance.
Margaret Thatcher – Determination
Naga Bandha is caused by Rahu and is considered the worst. You may be cheated, falsely accused, slandered, fall into terrible times and get into criminal activity in bad company. As Rahu is a shadow planet it gives problems with things that cannot be easily comprehended.
The challenge of Rahu in the Ascendant is Prarabdha Karma: Past life goals/and obsession were not completed and need addressed.
Identifying criminal tendencies in a vedic astrology horoscope usually depends upon the following factors:
• The placement of Mars in Natal and divisional charts.
• The relationship of Moon with cruel and malefic planets.
• The relationship of third and sixth houses with Mars, Moon and ascendant lord.
MURDER
This birth chart below belongs to Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatama Gandhi.

The Ascendant is occupied by Mars, which rules over sixth and eleventh houses; and a strong negative planet for Gemini Ascendant people. Mars is aspected by debilitated Saturn placed in eleventh house. The ascendant lord Mercury is combust and ill placed in the twelfth house along with third lord Sun and exalted Rahu. Moon, however, is conjunct with Jupiter in fourth house and exalted Venus is placed in tenth house
Godse shot Mahatama Gandhi on 30th January 1948. At that time, Nathuram Godse was under main period (Mahadasa) of Jupiter and sub period (Antardasa/Bukti of debilitated Saturn). The Jupiter is under malefic aspect of Mars while the Saturn is debilitated in Mars zodiac sign

The Ascendant is occupied by Mars, which rules over sixth and eleventh houses; and a strong negative planet for Gemini Ascendant people. Mars is having aspect of debilitated Saturn placed in eleventh house. The ascendant lord Mercury is combust and ill placed in twelfth house along with third lord Sun and exalted Rahu. Moon, however, is conjunct with Jupiter in fourth house and exalted Venus is placed in tenth house of this vedic astrology horoscope.
Charles Shobraj: This vedic astrology birth chart belongs to noted criminal Charles Shobraj . He was a serial killer and also known as “The Serpent” and, “the Bikini Killer”. Charles Shobraj allegedly committed 12 murders and currently serving prison in Nepal. The influence of Jupiter + Rahu union over Lagna lord Venus; and the impact of Mars over ninth, twelfth, third and fourth houses has made him a dreaded criminal. The mahadasa of Mars started from March 1959 (15 years of age) and thereafter, Charles Shobraj remained under main periods of Rahu and Jupiter till 56 years of age.

.In this vedic astrology horoscope, Ascendant lord Venus is exalted in sixth house. Venus, however, is conjunct with Sun and this union of Venus + Sun is under aspect of Jupiter and Rahu placed in tenth house. Jupiter rules over third and sixth houses in Libra Ascendant and is a strong negative planet. The union of Jupiter + Rahu in tenth house generates, Guru Chandala Yoga – and its impact have become significantly inauspicious as such Jupiter is a strong malefic and exalted in tenth house. Third house is under aspect of Mars, which is placed in ninth house. The Moon is placed in eleventh house and is not having any relationship with first, third or sixth houses.
David Berkowitz – Son of Sam

David Berkowitz was born June 1, 1953 at 16:52 in Brooklyn, NY, with Four planets in the 8th house (of death)
Sun combusting Jupiter in the 8th house (prompting morality to lose power)
Mars exactly conjoined Mercury in the 8th house (prompting violent expression)
Mutual exchange between the 7th and 8th houses.
This mutual exchange links death (8th house) to how the man relates with other people (7th house). Considering the number of planets in this house (8), and the sensitivity of the rising sign to this house, this house exchange is very powerful prompting obsession.
Rahu almost exactly conjunct the Moon
This is a glaring similarity to Charles Manson. In fact, the Moon of Berkowitz and Mansion is exactly conjunct Rahu in exactly the same part of the zodiac: 10-11º Capricorn!
Aries Rising and Libra Rising
This is similar to Manson’s Aries rising, here is why: When Aries rises (as for Manson) the lord of the 1st house (self) is also the lord of the 8th house (death). And when Libra rises (as for Berkowitz), the same thing is true: the lord of the 1st is also the lord of the 8th.
Of course not every Aries or Libra rising is a serial killer, thank God, or else 1/6 of the population would be going on killing sprees! But this configuration has a weakness that can be exploited by other, more specific, more powerful negative conditions in the individual horoscope.

Charles Manson was born: Nov 12, 1934 at 16:40 in Cincinnati, OH
- Aries rising Moon in Capricorn
These two facts make Mars (owner of Aries) and Saturn (owner of Capricorn) important in the chart and gives the chart a push towards being a harsh personality.
- Rahu exactly conjunct the Moon
This means that that Manson’s mind was wild, primal and destructive.

- Venus entirely combust by a debilitated sun and under a full aspect from extremely strong Saturn (Saturn at 170% normal strength)
This perverts and destroys the man’s awareness of being good to others and living beings
- Four planets in the 7th house
- Three planets in the 10th
- All planets in angles or trines (making him powerful and famous)
- Navamsha: Moon, Mercury and Venus are all powerfully aspected by Mars
The Tate–LaBianca murders were a series of murders perpetrated by members of the Manson Family during August 9–10, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, United States, under the direction of Tex Watson and Charles Manson.

Charles Manson’s Charisma gave him immense control over his followers
He had Venus and Mercury (Lords of the Air Signs) as well as Sun and Jupiter all in the Venus Sign of Libra in the 7th house of Marriage and Partners.
He manipulated and seduced his followers with drugs and sex, powerfully playing upon their lust for pleasure

Ahi Bandha is caused by Ketu and shows unimaginable events, mental aberrations, and humiliation. There are sudden reversals, decline in health for obscure reasons, insomnia and mental disorders.
Ketu in a challenging house can prompt Error: Obsession by evil nature and delusion is common. You can also cheat or be cheated, and be filled with false hopes.
Self destructive activities are also possible. From an obsession this distress may befall all the aspects of your life.
However Ketu in a spiritual house promotes non-attachment.
You may be challenged beyond your regular experience and efforts –
Perry Edward Smith (October 27, 1928 – April 14, 1965) was one of two career criminals convicted of murdering the four members of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, United States, on November 15, 1959, a crime that was made famous by Truman Capote in his 1966 non-fiction novel “In Cold Blood”. Along with Richard Hickock, Smith took part in the burglary and multiple murder at the Clutter family farmhouse.
Ari Bandha is caused by Saturn, the karaka for our own shadripu (sins/weaknesses) and enemies. Saturn causes bandhana from enemies, diseases or own weaknesses (Shadripu). This can be due to curses from the past or the present birth. The person will have tremendous sorrow, suffering and depression.
They are overpowered either by enemies or disease or some other weakness.

Carter Rubin an American middleweight boxer, nicknamed “The Hurricane,” started off life very angry and rebellious a criminal trajectory. He was arrested at the age of 14 for assault and robbery, was sent to a reformatory, escaped, joined the army and was court-martialed four times. Upon returning to New Jersey, he committed a series of muggings and was imprisoned for four years.
Upon his release, he became renowned as a middleweight boxer.
In the mid-60’s, he was imprisoned for murder, he was arrested for a triple murder and received a life sentence in prison. Wrongfully convicted he was released following a petition of habeas corpus after almost 20 years in prison.

Lifetime Dasha
He was convicted along with John Artis in 1967 of the shotgun killings of three people in a Paterson, New Jersey bar on 17 June 1966. A boxer with a criminal record who had spent time in jail, he nonetheless claimed innocence.
While in prison, he changed his life profoundly. He dealt with his anger, and entered both deep self-reflection and a course of study. He was finally released decades later and became a champion of the falsely accused, and a motivational speaker.
His case was supported by celebrities including Bob Dylan and Muhammad Ali. At a retrial on 9 February 1977, his conviction was upheld and he was given three life terms in prison. Shortly after the retrial conviction his wife had their baby son.
Carter wrote his autobiography, The 16th Round. In 1985, after 19 years in prison, he was freed, pending an appeal based on new evidence. The State decreed in February 1988 to overturn his conviction after a 22-year legal battle.
Carter’s life was portrayed incredibly well by Denzel Washington in the movie “The Hurricane”., a movie of Carter’s story, The Hurricane, opened on 29 December 1999. Starring Denzel Washington, it was nominated for awards.
Rubin Carter died from prostate cancer on 20 April 2014 at the age of 76 in Toronto, Canada.
In the charts shown above, there are clear indications of a life checkered by intensity and change, ups and downs.
In his Western chart, shown above on the left, he has Uranus square his Ascendant and Pluto Square his Midheaven, both of which can indicate a life with profound and deep shifts at major times. Surprisingly, I have found the aspect of Pluto opposite Jupiter in the charts of violent men before, and so was not surprised to find this as an exact aspect in his chart. In addition, the Taurus (Uranus, Sun) square Leo (Ascendant) aspect often indicates a volcanic temper.
However, keeping to the context of this article, the “smile” of Jupiter upon Pluto is quite relevant (in other words, let’s not get lost in focusing only on hard or soft aspects). Benefic Jupiter’s glance upon Pluto indicates the capacity to learn from the profound changes that occur, even the 12th house imprisonment.
And also in keeping with the teachings herein, the Mars trine Saturn might very well be one of the indicators of his early unresolved anger (since Mars and Saturn to not cooperate well, and prefer not to be in contact, even by trine). This is especially true because both of them aspect Pluto (and in this case, it places Pluto near the Mars/Saturn midpoint), further indicating that trines are not always benefic.
[This actually brings to the fore an amazing insight: since Grand Trines composed of very tightly connected planets place all three points at the midpoints of the other pair of planets, a tight Grand Trine composed of malefics is likely to be very problematic!]
Similarly, the tight semisquare between “mortal enemies” the Sun and Saturn is a very clear indicator of the karma he would have to “burn” with authority figures, but would, if he grew enough, enable him to command authority wisely.
A Western astrologer with “trine-itis” might have looked at all of the trines and the Grand Trine in Mr. Carter’s chart and predicted an easy and talented life, and they would have been sorely mistaken. It is only with experience that one can take enough factors into account to get a true reading of the chart and the person’s life.
His Vedic chart is similarly illustrative. The ruler of his Ascendant is the Moon, who is in the Eighth House, which is a clear indication of anger issues. Additionally, the Moon occupies one of the “burning pair” Nakshatra, and in fact the unbridled one: Purva Bhadrapada. Those who have prominent placements (e.g. the Ascendant or Ruler of the Ascendant) in Purva Bhadrapada will wrestle with the intensity of their emotions and desires, and have to work hard to surmount the obstacles that life places in their path.
(For those unfamiliar with Nakshatras — aka Lunar Mansions — these are the core elements of a chart. They were used by astrologers over a thousand years before the 12 signs! Nakshatras represent the deepest and most constant themes in a person’s chart.)
To evaluate whether a planet in a specific Nakshatra will manifest its themes primarily positively or negatively, one looks at the strength of the planet (the Moon is dark and waning, making it weak and unsupported), its house placement (e.g. Moon in the 8th: deep challenges abound), whether the planet is happy or unhappy occupying the sign it is in (Moon in one of the signs of Saturn: unhappy) and whether the planet in a specific Nakshatra is aspected by benefics or malefics (Moon only aspected by malefic Mars, who is doubly strong and therefore really amps up the anger issues incredibly).
So Rubin was fated to be angry, immolated, and ultimately became transformed because he was able to stay the course. (His progress is represented in part by Jupiter’s aspect on his Ascendant — please note that Jupiter exchanges signs with Saturn and is therefore not as weak as one might initially think).
The strength of Mr. Carter’s Sun (exalted and with directional strength) in his Vedic chart also shows his capacity to persevere, as does the will and tenacity of the Sun/Uranus conjunction in Taurus in his Western chart.
One should always look at the talents and benefits offered within a person’s chart, and see the challenges portrayed, however great, within this context. So here is a man who had chosen a very powerful life journey, and who would be radically changed, and dare I say freed, by it. Hank Freidman
