Integration of Basic Elements
Now you have seen all the basic building blocks of the Jyotish chart.
Even though every Jyotishi (Vedic Astrologer) will develop his or her own style of reading the chart, here is a suggestion for how to go about it:
1. Note the Lagna (Ascendant) and Chandra’s Rashi (Moon sign), to get a broad sense of the person’s characteristics. Include major aspects or conjunctions on the Lagna and Chandra that may alter the results.
2. Refine this by looking at the Rashi where the Lagna lord is placed, the Rashi of Surya (Sun sign), and the Rashi of Chandra’s dispositor (the sign in which the Moon sign’s lord is placed). Look for patterns that repeat; is there a predominance of one element or are most signs movable, fixed or dual? Are there Grahas that aspect the Lagna as well as the Moon? Repeating patterns will manifest almost certainly.
3. Use the Nakshatras occupied by the Lagna, Chandra and Surya to enrich your picture of the person.
4. To analyze a particular area of life, consider the Bhavas (houses) as well as the Grahas (planets) that signify that area of life. Combine the results to find repeating patterns.
5. When interpreting a Bhava (house), include the effects of the Rashi (Sign) in that bhava, Grahas (planets) in that bhava, and the lordships of the Grahas in that Bhava. Consider the lord of the Bhava as important as the Bhava itself, and analyze all the influences on the Bhava lord, including the Bhava/Rashi it is placed in, conjunctions and aspects.
6. When interpreting a Graha (planet), consider Rashi, Nakshatra and Bhava placement, aspects and conjunctions.
7. Interpret the effects of the Bhavas and Grahas relative to the bigger picture you gained from the Lagna (Ascendant) and Chandra (Moon).
Your initial problem is how to synthesize several astrological factors.
Student Jyotishis tend to take one symbol and, because it is manageable, work it to death. One example is to take Jupiter as a benefic, and to wax eloquent concerning its wonderful effect over everything it influences in the horoscope. While in certain horoscopes this may well be true, such a blanket interpretation ignores the possibility that the chart under consideration, may be disadvantaged in a Jupiter which is debilitated, rules bad houses, occupies detrimental house, is aspected by Mars and Saturn, and is associated with Rahu that will often create results quite the opposite of wonderful. Though such undesirable effects may build character, most people would nevertheless prefer to avoid them.
