INTRODUCTION
your Astrology: your birth right that gives understanding of the workings of the Universal Forces that include action and control, wisdom, enjoyment, life, peace, intellect and love. You were born into this world with an Agenda to complete - a choice of destinies reflected in your birth chart. The sooner you understand that Agenda and your strengths and weaknesses, the better you can capitalize on your strengths and resist your weaknesses, the better your life will fare. Life is all about choices: temptations resisted and opportunities seizedBasic Interpretation of the birth chart will introduce you to the most basic concepts and elements in Vedic Astrology. It covers the zodiac used, the way the chart is drawn, and gives you an understanding of the Grahas (Planets), Rashis (signs), Bhavas (houses) and Nakshatras. It also introduces you to the lordships of the Bhavas, and the use of the Lagna (Ascendant), which are based on the relationship of the Grahas and the Bhavas, and the Rashis and the Bhavas respectively. This section also explains the most basic interaction between the Grahas: Conjunctions and aspects. Interpreting Planets provides an in-depth approach to understanding a unique nature of each Graha in any particular horoscope. This includes a precise distinction between the strength, auspiciousness and quality of a Graha. Interpreting houses elaborates on the various techniques used to interpret how a bhava will function in the chart and estimate how the areas of life represented by the bhava will manifest in one's life. Interpreting the chart integrates the previous two sections and completes a basic level of the chart analysis. Varieties of charts introduces you to some other types of charts that are often used to enrich the basic analysis of the birth chart. All the principles of the earlier section can now be applied in additional contexts. Divisional charts elaborates in detail on the use of one of the chart types introduced in the previous chapter. This chapter concludes the first part of the tutorial, dealing with interpreting the chart. Predictions The earlier chapters dealt with interpreting the chart without concern for the timing of life events, and predicting when various potential will manifest. The next three sections deal with the subject of timing the predictions. The Dashas section will explain how the planets are activated in cycles, and cycles within cycles. The Transits section will explain how the ongoing movement of the planets affects the natal chart. The Varshaphala section will teach you the intricacies of the chart cast on one's birthday, or rather, the exact time that the Sun re-visits its natal position. Other topics The Compatibility section shows you how you can determine the romantic compatibility between 2 people. Remedial measures briefly covers what one can do to correct negative or undesirable tendencies in life.

THE LAW OF KARMA
The Basis of Astrology is the Law of Karma: that Actions in this life affect Outcomes in the next life. Birth time Astrology is possible if there is reincarnation of souls to fulfil their Karma Karma is the spiritual principle of cause and effect, where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect). The Horoscope is a map of the heavens (planets) plotted on paper as a chart with the twelve signs of the zodiac placed in twelve numbered houses. From this map of the heavens we can read the planetary influences on human beings, as well as the amount of free will people possess.

VEDIC CHART AND AREAS OF LIFE
Each House bhava represents a number of areas of life. Whereas Planets (Grahas) indicate the different aspects of our consciousness, the bhavas indicate what areas of life that consciousness is most strongly connected to, projected on and influenced by the planets influence. The Signs (Rashis) color that connection and give it very specific qualities

TRANSITS
For an event to happen in your life you first need the specific Birth Time Astrology: Example: Saturn in the 9th house is good for awareness: The placement of Saturn in the ninth house can make the natives religious, pious and spiritually inclined. If you were born 8 hours before: Saturn in the 5th house produces seriously sick children. The time you were born is prompted by Sanchita Karma: the Accumulated Karma of all your Lifetimes. It would be impossible to experience and endure all these Sanchjta karma in one lifetime. Drude (Heavy) Karma takes many lifetimes to conquer. Adrude (Light) Karma will take less effort to overcome. Prarabdha Karma is experienced through the present body and is only a part of Sanchita karma that is ripe (Prarabdha Karma) and to be addressed this lifetime. Prarabdha Karma is a collection of past Sanchita karmas that your soul selected to be experienced through this present body, in this present life. From this stock of Sanchita karma, a handful is taken out to address in one lifetime and this handful of actions, which have begun to bear fruit and which will be exhausted only on their fruit being enjoyed or addressed is known as Prarabdha karma. Prarabdha Karma is past Life Karma shown by the Position of your Ketu in your Vedic Chart. Prarabdha Karma: Known as the ‘purpose’ karma of this present lifetime, where the purpose is to fulfill part of your karmic dues, experiences and lessons set out for this incarnation. Prarabdha Karma are those lessons and experiences that we must absolutely face in this lifetime, no questions asked. Prarabdha Karma is akin to a scoop of Karma taken from the massive pool of Sanchita KarmaYour Birth Time Astrology is subsequently influenced by your choices this lifetime: Kriyamana (Present Karma): Every thought word, deed, decision & action we create in our current life. All Kriyamana karmas flow from Sanchita karma and consequently shapes our future. Kriyamana is the karma we are creating with our desires. Kriyamana karma, or present karma, refers more specifically to the instantaneous or immediate Kriyamana Karma the consequences of your actions and is represented by the position of Rahu in your Vedic Chart. Distinction can be made between Kriyamana Karma that emphasizes the cause-and-effect between your actions and their immediate results and Agami Karma: future karma generated by your current actions and choices with consequences later in this lifetime or in future lifetimes. You need also to be running the planets Dasha or Bhuki: Running the particular Planet;s Dasha (running Mars Dasha) or Mars Bhukti (Saturn into Mars) and your present time’s astrology is influences by your present day astrology including the TRANSITS of planets through a particular house That will prompt the ripening of a particular Karma That is precipitated by the transit of the planet through the house that contains the Karma in question How does Karma become Ripe? For something to happen to you, you need 3 influences 1. A Planet in a house that controls a Concern: Mars in the 12th house means the Loss of Freedom 2. Run the particular Planets Dasha (running Mars Dasha) or Mars Bhukti (Saturn into Mars) 3. The Transit of the planets across that House – Then you go to jail for as long as the Sanchita Karma lasts. be it for a Month as Mars transits the 12th House. An AHA moment Tulsidas, a Hindu saint, said: "Our destiny was shaped long before the body came into being." We do have Free Will: Limited to how Aware and Disciplined we are and the Weight of Karma As long as the stock of Sanchita Karma lasts, there is the cycle of birth and death. Part of Sanchita Karma is taken as Prarabdha karma for being enjoyed or endured this lifetime,. A Jiva (Soul) cannot attain moksha (liberation) from the cycle of birth and death, until the accumulated Sanchita Karmas are completely exhausted. All Astrological Yogas indicate past Karma – the position of planets in your chart control impulses and influences the trajectory of this life Example: We just finished doing Katlyn’s astrology, she has Rahu in the 12th house. We predicted Kaitlyn has real knowledge/focus on 12th house issues of death. Without knowing her Vedic Chart she already does elaborate death ceremonies to gain insight. An AHA moment revealed from her chart. But she was also warned she has a dangerous Yoga: From one act of anger, she could lose Everything, house, home and family.Rahu in Vedic Astrology represents Desires you pursue this lifetime. So Rahu is a blessing or a curse depending on the house that is in. Be careful what you wish for. If you deeply desire something, you will manifest it in your life, now or in the future. So say you have Mars in the 12th house: you are likely to loose your freedom either by Jail, Illness or Mental Instability such as Agoraphobia Other parts of the chart will tell which: Say its Jail You are likely to go to Jail when you are running Mars Dasha or Bhukti and Mars transits the 12th house and be released when Mars exits the 12th house The Effect of Ketu in the 12th house is prompted by the Transit of Ketu over the position of Ketu in the 12th house. Rahu in the 6th house is Good

LAGNA – ASCENDANT
Lagna Ascendant – influences your Character The Ascendant is what is coming over the Horizon at the time of your birth While Western astrology assigns pre-eminence to the Sun sign, Jyotish awards that position to the Ascendant, which gives more insight into your life particulars than does any other factor in the horoscope. You can look up typical Cancer traits There are a few reliable principles regarding predictions based on the Ascendant: • What is the Constellation of the Ascendant and its ruler • The strength of the planets in the various houses • Relationship of the Lagna lord with the owners of various houses • The house the Sun rules in the chart • The ownership of the other houses in the chart Own House JB So important questions are: What Constellation is in the Ascendant? What planet rules what house and in what house is that ruler found? How do the various planets aspect each other? And in what Dasha (your Major Time Period) will its effect be felt?My Lagna is Sagittarius.

The GRAHAS (PLANETS)
Planets There are nine Grahas “planets” in Indian astrology: Only five of them are planets, one is a star, one is a moon, and the remaining two (Rahu and Ketu) are special astronomical points where the Sun and Moon eclipses occur

STRENGTH OF PLANETS
The Shadbala is the calculated score by which an astrologer can assess the strength of the planet. The effects of a planet whether auspicious or inauspicious will be in proportion to its strength. This Shadbala strength calculation is based on the different 'Bala' or strength factors. In ascendant, Jupiter and Mercury are strong. In North, Sun and Mars are strong in 10th house. In west, Saturn is strong and Venus and Mars acquires the directional form of strength in South in 4th house. In Vedic astrology, the strength of a planet depends on its natural qualities and how it interacts with other planets. Planets also have a permanent strength, called Naisargikabala, that they produce regardless of their position. The Sun has the greatest permanent strength, while Saturn has the least. In descending order of strength, the planets are: Sun, Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn. The capacity of a particular planet to strongly influence your life and choices depends upon its planetary strength. This strength is determined by such factors as: • The aspects between planets that are friends or enemies • The friendliness of the ruling planet of the house in which the planet is found • Directional strength. A planet placed in its exalted Constellation attains is greatest strength for good or evil.Auspiciousness and Quality: The qualities of the Graha determined by it sign, Nakshatra position etc. will be expressed most advantageously when the planet is auspiciously placed. The qualities will be expressed with struggle and grief when the Graha is afflicted. Of course, in most cases there is no black and white situation, and there is some balance of afflictions and supporting factors, that bring out the qualities of the planet in a variety of ways. Since the strength of the planet indicates how potent it is to manifest its qualities, it is best to have the Graha with desirable qualities be strong, and the Graha with negative qualities be weak. However, this concept of "what is best" is highly subjective to one's purpose in life. In the life of a monk, a strong and unafflicted Venus may be out of place, as it will likely cause marriage. In the life of a wrestler, one probably would not have much use for a strong Moon. And a powerful Sun, would not serve people whose destiny it is to be in service.

RASHIS (CONSTELLATIONS/SIGNS)
Vedic astrology and zodiac signs differ in how they track the positions of planets and constellations: Vedic astrology Uses the sidereal zodiac, which measures the motion of planets against the fixed positions of stars. Vedic astrology is based on the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism, and the belief that a person's karma is related to the positions of the planets and stars. Vedic astrology also includes the sun, moon, and seven planets, each with a name and dates that differ from Western astrology. Zodiac signs Use the tropical zodiac, which measures the motion of planets against the position of the sun on the spring equinox. A zodiac sign is a symbol that represents a person's personality, emotions, and motivations. Each person has a zodiac sign for each planet, the moon, and the sun. Because of the Earth's tilt and whirl, known as precession, stars and constellations don't remain fixed. Each star moves roughly one degree every 70 years, so a person's Vedic zodiac sign may differ from their Western zodiac sign

Vedic Astrology

The capacity of a particular planet to strongly influence your life and choices depends upon its planetary strength. This strength is determined by such factors as:

  • The aspects between planets that are friends or enemies
  • The friendliness of the ruling planet of the house in which the planet is found
  • Directional strength.

A planet placed in its exalted Constellation attains is greatest strength for good or evil.

Auspiciousness and Quality: The qualities of a Graha is determined by it sign, Nakshatra position etc. and will be expressed most advantageously when the planet is auspiciously placed. However, this concept of “what is best” is highly subjective to one’s purpose in life. In the life of a monk, a strong and unafflicted Venus may be out of place, as it will likely prompt emotional entanglement and cause marriage. In the life of a wrestler, one probably would not have much use for a strong Moon. And a powerful Sun, would not serve people whose destiny it is to be in service.

The Shad Bala bar graph represents the strength of the planets. Any planet with a bar in the graph that is below the line (in the red) is of concern. For instannceWhat happens with a weak Sun?. On the physical level, the individual may suffer from low energy, pallor, anemia, cold extremities, weak digestion, poor appetite, weak or slow pulse, weak heart and poor circulation. There may be edema, accumulation of water and phlegm, and general hypo-function of the organs and nervous system and distant communication with your Father.

Knowing the strength of each planet is of major importance. It allows Vedic astrologers to determine the most influential planet in any configuration (the strongest planet has the greatest effect, although very weak planets can have potent disruptive effects). Jyotishis also need to assess whether any of the positive combinations in the chart (the positive Yogas) are of real consequence.

There are Remedies for the Strength of Planets

Shad Bala is the calculated score by which an astrologer can asses the strength of the planet.

Interpreting Planets – Planetary strength: Shad bala

We know that a Graha may be well placed in the chart which would enable it to bring out it’s most desirable qualities. Or the Graha may be afflicted in the chart, which would bring out it’s most challenging side. But to what extent, and how strong will it act in life? How prominent will the Graha act in comparison to others? For this question, Jyotish has a very elaborate strength calculation. It is made up of 6 distinct components, each expressing the strength based on a unique dimension of the Grahas’ placement. The total sum of these 6 strengths is called Shad Bala. Shad means six in Sanskrit, and Bala means strength. A complete overview of this is given in the Shad Bala report. A Graha that ranks high in Shad Bala, is going to fully manifest its significations. It will be more prominent than other, weaker Grahas in the chart. Strong Grahas will strengthen the houses they rule, and will hold up the areas of life they represent well. A malefic Graha that is very strong, will be able to do more harm. A benefic Graha that is very strong will be able to bring a lot of good. A Graha that ranks low in Shad Bala, will not manifest the area of life it represents. Those matters may remain wishes or dreams or thoughts, but never make it into full manifestation. The weaker the Graha, the more inhibited it’s expression will be. If a Graha is malefic and afflicted, it is actually good to be weak, since it will not be able to manifest harmful results. If the Graha is benefic and unafflicted but weak, the person will miss out on experiencing the full benefits of it’s potential. The six sources of strength are: Sthana Bala, Dig bala, Kaala Bala, Ayana bala, Naisargika Bala, Drik bala and Chesta

The rule of thumb is that for a yoga to significantly lift up the quality of a person’s life, at least one planet in the combination should be strong.

We know that a Graha may be well placed in the chart which would enable it to bring out its most desirable qualities.

Or the Graha may be afflicted in the chart, which would bring out its most challenging side.

The six sources of strength are presented below

Shad Bala  – Weak Sun

“Should one among Venus, Mercury or Jupiter be in a Kendra House (angular) or Kona (Trinal house) – all evils are destroyed as the Sun eliminates Darkness”.

In your chart you have Venus in a Kendra (angular house). This is difficult to obtain and would cast a transcendental blessing on your whole life. You make beauty in relationships. Venus aspects the character and constitution

Venus a very strong natural and functional Benefic, which means Venus not only has a gentle effect on the surface, but also the underlying tendencies of Venus bring growth and evolution

The Debilitated Sun rules the 3rd house, and is placed in the 5th house. For a Gemini Lagna, the functional nature of Sun is Malefic, but from the Moon in Gemini, the functional nature of Sun is Benefic. Sun is debilitated, which limits a favorable result

The Debilitated Sun rules the 3rd house, and is placed in the 5th house. For a Gemini Lagna, the functional nature of Sun is Malefic, but from the Moon in Gemini, the functional nature of Sun is Benefic. Sun is debilitated, which limits favorable result

The weaker the Graha, the more inhibited its expression will be.

If a Graha is malefic and afflicted, it is actually good to be weak, since it will not be able to manifest harmful results.

If the Graha is benefic and unafflicted but weak, the person will miss out on experiencing the full benefits of its potential

Tom Hanks

In Tom Hanks’ chart, for example, Venus in its own sign of Taurus (Malavya MahaPurusha Yoga) in the Tenth House is a major indicator of his fame and success. In fact, Hanks has three planets in their own signs and two others exchanging signs in his chart (which gives strength)

The effects of a planet whether auspicious or inauspicious will be in proportion to its strength. This Shad Bala strength calculation is based on the different ‘Bala’ or strength factors.
In the Ascendant, Jupiter and Mercury are strong. In the North, Sun and Mars are strong in 10th house. In the West, Saturn is strong and Venus and Mars acquires the directional form of strength in the South in 4th house.
In Vedic astrology, the strength of a planet depends on its natural qualities and how it interacts with other planets. Planets also have a permanent strength, called Naisargika Bala, that they produce regardless of their position. The Sun has the greatest permanent strength, while Saturn has the least. In descending order of strength, the planets are:
Sun, Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn

Princess Diana’s Chart

One can compare the strength of two house lords in the Shad Bala Graph below. For example: If the 7th house lord is stronger than the 1st house lord, the person is likely to marry “above themselves”.

In Princess Diana’s chart, her 7th house lord (Venus in Taurus) was significantly stronger than her 1st house lord (Mars in Leo).

Malavya Mahapurusha Yoga of Princess Diane

Venus in Kendra, exalted or in own sign.

The person has a graceful appearance, fine and beautiful lips, slim waist, handsome body, deep voice, sparkling teeth and bright complexion like the full Moon. The cheeks are prominent, eyes bright, and a long upper limbs approaching the knees.  The person is learned, versed in the scriptures, has wealth, earns through own effort. Having power, blessed with a spouse and progeny, the person enjoys all comforts but is inclined towards extramarital relationships.

Exaltation is a very powerful location in the zodiac for a planet: for good or evil.  This degree is called the point of deep exaltation

Sun in Aries, Moon in Taurus, Mercury in Virgo, Venus in Pisces, Mars in Capricorn, Jupiter in Cancer, and Saturn in Libra.

The exaltation degrees are different for every Graha, but follow an interesting symmetry. Surya is in deep exaltation at 10 degrees Mesha (Aries). Shani is in deep exaltation in the 20th degree of Tula (Libra). Surya being the brightest, and Shani being the darkest, are exalted in opposite signs. Mangal (Mars) is deeply exalted in 28 degrees of Makara (Capricorn), and Guru in 5 degrees of the opposite sign, Karka. Buddha (Mercury) is exalted at 15 degrees of Kanya (Virgo), and Shukra

The degree of deepest exaltation is the same as the degree of deepest debilitation, just in the opposite sign. E.g. Saturn is strongest at 20 degrees of Libra.

The exaltation degrees are different for every Graha, but follow an interesting symmetry.      Surya is in deep exaltation at 10 degrees Mesha (Aries). Shani is in deep exaltation in the 20th degree of Tula (Libra). DEBILITATION

The further away a Graha is from its point of exact exaltation, the less auspicious it becomes. The point opposite of the degree of deep exaltation, is called the degree of deep debilitation.

A debilitated planet is in its weakest position, but may increase the malevolence of malefic planets.

This is called Fall in Western astrology. I.e. Sun in 10 degrees of Libra, Moon in Scorpio, Mercury in Pisces, Venus in Virgo, Mars in Cancer, Jupiter in Capricorn, and Saturn in Aries.

Mercury (Budha) is debilitated in Pisces (Meena) Jupiter (Guru) is debilitated in Capricorn (Makar) Venus (Shukra) is debilitated in Virgo (Kanya) Saturn (Shani) is debilitated on Aries (Maish) Every planet has a positive and negative placement. For instance, a well-placed planet, or an exalted planet can lead you to great achievements in life. A Debilitated planet in a weak position can cause you to go through a painful experience Debilitated Sun diminishes your ability to fight off diseases, Debilitated Mars diminishes your courage. Debilitated Mercury diverts your mind towards erroneous activity.  Debilitated Venus can reduce your prospects of marriage. If Saturn is debilitated, then he indulge in immoral activities.

Malefic planets have always been feared. Planets influenced by malefic planets are also considered inauspicious. Debilitated planets can fail to deliver hoped for results. But a planet alone does not give any results. Its effects depend upon the sign or the house it is placed in and is influenced by Aspects.

The degree of deepest debilitation, after which strength begins to return to the plane is, respectively, 3, 15, 27, 28, 5, and 20 (e.g. Jupiter is weakest at 5 degrees Capricorn

Debilitated Sun diminishes your ability to fight off diseases,

Moon debilitated in 6th house means Major depression

Debilitated Mars diminishes your courage.

Debilitated Mercury diverts your mind towards erroneous activity.

Debilitated Venus can reduce your prospects of marriage.

If Saturn is debilitated, then he indulge in immoral activities.

Ketu in 8th house poisons that house of chronic illness

Brian experienced major debilitating depression during the the periods Saturn into Ketu in the 8th house of chronic illness and Saturn into Moon in the 6th house.

Chase experienced chronic depression in the period Saturn into Moon in the 8th house of chronic illness

Chase Saturn Dasha

DEBILITATED AND MALEFIC PLANETS ARE NOT ALWAYS INAUSPICIOUS

Sometimes inauspicious planets also give good results. For example Saturn and Mars are malefic planets, but when they both form a relationship with the house of education, the person will have interests in technical education. Many people become doctors and engineers due to the influence of this yoga in their birth-chart.

Similarly, we do not expect good results from the debilitated planets. If Sun is debilitated, then the ability of the native to fight with diseases gets affected. Mars influences his courage, and Mercury diverts his mind towards erroneous activities. Debilitated Jupiter may give some difficulties in fulfilling his desires. Debilitated Venus influences his character. If Saturn is debilitated, then he may be interested in immoral activities.

Let us acknowledge how these inauspicious and malefic planets give happiness to the native.

  1. Digbali (Directional Strength) Malefic Planet

Every planet gets strength in one or the other direction. In the period of Digbali (directional strength) planets, the native is blessed with good health. He will get respect and honor in the society. His wealth, happiness and prosperity will also increase. When malefic planets like Mars, Saturn and Sun have Dig bala in their period, they give auspicious and good results.

  1. Relationship of Inauspicious Planet with the Inauspicious House

The third, sixth, eighth and twelfth houses are known as malefic houses. When any inauspicious planet is located in these houses, the person will get good results. Whenever these planets form a relationship with these houses, afflictions of the person wither away. He will win over his enemies. During the period or sub-period of planets located in these houses, he will get relieved from his problems, illness and diseases. He will be blessed with good health, respect and happiness in life.

RELATION BETWEEN KENDRA AND TRINE

  1. Relationship Between Kendra and Trine

Auspicious planets give auspicious results in Kendra and Trine. If any benefic planet such as Mercury and Jupiter becomes the lord of two Kendra houses, then due to Kendradhipati Dosha planets lose their auspiciousness. In this situation, they will give you mixed results. But, when any malefic planet like Sun, Saturn and Mars becomes the lord of Kendra house, it gives benefic results. When any inauspicious planet becomes the lord of Kendra and trine, then it becomes the Yogakarak planet and hence more auspicious in this position. It gives a person good health, respect, prosperity and happiness during its period or sub-periods.

RESULTS OF THE PERIOD OF THE PLANET IN A DEBILITATED SIGN

Results of the Period of Planets in the Debilitated Sign

  1. When any auspicious planet is located in the debilitated sign, and forms a relationship with the eighth or sixth house, then the planet gives physical problems, afflictions and malefic results to the native during its period or sub-period. But if any debilitated or inauspicious planet forms a relationship with these houses during the period it gives good results.
  2. When the lords of Kendra houses are placed in the second, seventh and twelfth house, they get influenced by Maarak Dosha. It means they have the ability to cause pain equivalent to death in their periods and sub-periods.
  3. When the benefic planets become the lords of the third, sixth, eighth and eleventh house, their auspiciousness gets reduced. In this position, they give only the one-third of their results during the period or sub-period.

:RESULTS DURING THE PERIOD OF RAHU AND KETU:

  1. Among all the nine planets Rahu and Ketu are considered most inauspicious planets. These two planets are not given supremacy over any sign. When these two planets are placed in Kendra and form a relationship with the leaders of trine, they give auspicious results in their periods and sub-periods. It is because in this position they are located in the auspicious house and get influenced by the lord.
  2. In addition, when Rahu and Ketu are located in the trine house and form a relationship with the lord of Kendra, then the person gets money, happiness and prosperity.
  3. The period of Ketu is divided into three parts when it is auspicious in the birth-chart. In the first part of its period, the person will get benefits from his relatives, friends and teachers. In the second part, he will incur good amount of money and in the last part, he will get happiness in his life.

During the period of Ketu, he will achieve success in the field of religion and spirituality.

When Ketu forms a relationship with Jupiter or Sagittarius the native obtains knowledge of religion, policy and justice. Ketu is exalted in Sagittarius and its own house in Pisces. The position of Ketu in Pisces shows the path of moksha to the native.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein had Gemini rising. His Saturn indeed brought him deep understanding as 8th and 9th lords, which he used in his career (Saturn in the 10th house). Note: Saturn is strong because it is in a Parivartana Yoga (and Raja Yoga) with Jupiter. Saturn’s 8th house lordship gave him the instincts and perseverance to investigate deeply into the nature of the Universe, while the 9th house lordship gave him the ability to create a General Theory of Relativity, i.e. to place his ideas into a larger context.

Exalted Venus with Sun. Saturn and Mars in the 10th house spells Genius

The presence of “Malavya MahaPurush yoga” (exalted Venus in 10th house) in his birth chart took him to dizzy heights in life. Presence of many auspicious and powerful yogas made him a renowned person around the world. To name a few Gaja-Kesari yoga (Jupiter-Moon),

Bharathi yoga (the dispositor of second house lord Moon in Navamansa is exalted in Navamansa),

Neech Bhang Raja yoga (Mercury),

Vipareeta Harsh yoga (Mars),

Maha Parivartan yoga (Saturn-Jupiter),

Amar yoga (all benefics in quadrangles).

The role of Mercury and Saturn astrologically producing a personality to work in the fields of Physics & Mechanics or other technical pursuits. These Raja Yogas made Einstein so distinctive, magnificent and distinguished that he became a historical personality.

The integration of 12th & 5th Lord Venus, 8th & 9th Lord Saturn and 1st & 4th Lord Mercury produced well defined interpretation of Physics, inserting his special theory of relativity in both scientific and spiritual expressions. Here Mercury expresses the brain abilities in terms of logical thinking and expanding analysis, from its Karkatva and becoming more sparked due to being the ascendant lord. On the other side Saturn a slow and thorough observer tends to take the life of native too serious especially when posited in Pisces sign. The association of both these planets in 10th house (the house of profession) has not only made a superior Raj Yoga but also brought in the attributes and out comes in the house of fame and outer world (The 10th house).

After observing the Horoscope carefully we can well understand the mutual relation produced between the spiritual and limitless sign Pisces and knowledgeability of Aquarius, which is being reflected by exchange of positions of Rashi (sign) Lords. The outcomes of this exchange get transmitted to ascendant Lord Mercury in 10th. Ultimately one strong Raj Yoga affects the other Raj Yoga in a positive manner. This resulted towards his unforgettable and persistent contribution in relativistic cosmology and classical problems of statistical mechanics and their application to quantum theory. Now being Lord of 5th house, third key planet of the horoscope, Venus which also denotes the intellect of a person (in Gemini ascendant chart) joins these Raj Yoga makers in the 10th thereby not only canceling the debilitation of Mercury but also contributing and bestowing another Raj yoga to give name and fame of world level.

Vedic Astrology describes that if Gemini rises as ascendant and Aquarius falls in the Navamsa ascendant, the native becomes highly prosperous and intelligent. The Navamsa chart also gets strengthened due to placement of Saturn in 9th house with having glory of exaltation. Again in Navamsa 5th Lord Mercury joins 1st Lord Saturn in 9th. And 9th Lord Venus associates with 10th Lord Mars in ascendant. 6th lord Moon in 12th makes a Vipareeta Raja Yoga.

Various Yogas giving further enormous strength to the chart

1. Gaja Kesari Yoga                Moon and Jupiter in mutual Kendras

2. Budha Aditya Yoga             Sun mercury together in same Signs

3. Malavya Yoga                    Venus in Kendra and exalted too.

4. Saraswati Yoga                 Mercury, Jupiter and Venus in Kendras and Konas

5. Chamar Yoga                    Two banefics in 7, 9 and 10th houses

What planets caused Einstein’s Genius

A debilitated planet is a cause of worry in Vedic Astrology and is given special attention by an astrologer.

Albert Einstein, the famous physicist, also had two debilitated planet in his horoscope. One was the moon and the other was none other than Mercury, his ascendant lord that was transformed into a Neecha Bhang Raja Yoga.

Mercury in Vedic Astrology rules a great number of things but primarily intellect, education, teaching, learning, science, philosophy, mathematics. A debilitated Mercury should have deprived Einstein of having to do anything with these domains in life, but it is well known that he was the fortunate with regard to all these matters, and is considered the greatest scientist of all time.

Moreover, in Einstein’s chart, shown below, Mercury is the lord of the first house, which governs fame, as well as the lord of the fourth house, which rules knowledge and education, but Einstein became famous just because of his education and knowledge.

A debilitated planet gave so much to Einstein because his Mercury, which is located in the tenth house is conjunct an exalted Venus. This has given Mercury cancellation of debilitation, causing Neech Bhang Raja Yoga.

However, Einstein also has Sun posited in his tenth house and Saturn which is the ninth lord. Saturn plays a very important role in the charts of scientists as it is the significator of the eighth house, which denotes research, and in Einstein’s case it is also the eighth lord. Besides, Saturn in Einstein’s chart is also in Parivartana with Jupiter, the tenth lord, and is causing the most powerful raja yoga called Dharma Karma Adhipati Yoga.

A debilitated planet however is not without its bad effects. It is well known that Einstein had communication problems as a toddler. Mercury rules over communication and till the age of 10, Einstein was also going through the Mercury mahadasha. Einstein also had to leave his homeland and permanently migrate to the United States. In fact the German government had even announced a bounty on his head and his name was on a list of most wanted criminals. This trouble from homeland happened because Mercury is also the lord of the fourth house, which rules over residence, home, etc.

Einstein’s Mercury is thus giving both positive and negative effects. Tenth lord Jupiter is aspecting the first house, hence the first house is rendered strong, but Saturn and Sun, two natural malefics, aspecting the fourth house from the tenth have rendered the fourth house weak.

A debilitated planet thus can give both good and bad effects, depending on its lordship, placement, and the aspects it receives from other planets. A careful analysis is required to judge debilitated planets. They are not always good or always bad.

Jupiter in 9th house in Aquarius not only made him a good philosopher but also an   inspired researcher. He was able to become a great scientist since Saturn & Venus conjoining Sun gave him good logical/analytical ability with great reasoning and creative thinking. It is point it is noted that two opposite planets in a house give sound reasoning and logic to the person related to the house wherein they have an effect. In Pisces Venus is exalted and Mercury is creating Neech Bhang Raja Yoga. Sun and Mercury are friendly but Sun’s opposition to both Venus and Saturn is the reason of his excellent logical abilities. Jupiter in Aquarius makes a person truth seeker and helps one in some or the other kind of research work. Pisces being the 10th sign in his chart and presence of these planets made him believe in occult as well with a possibility of concurring the impossible through karma; Jupiter also supports this combination. Moon in Scorpio strengthened his belief in the unknown and exalted dispositor Mars supported this from 8th house.

Neech-Bhang Raja Yoga  –  Mercury is creating Neech Bhanga Raja Yoga

The exaltation lord of the debilitated planet is in a Kendra from Lagna. This Yoga indicates cancellation of the state of debilitation of a planet and yielding benefic results instead, being elevated to a Raja Yoga status.

One of the most powerful attributes of this chart is the exchange of lords of 9th and 10th house, i.e. Jupiter’s and Saturn’s exchange of house. Secondly the chart reflects the strength of 8th house with exaltation of Mars here in. Saturn becomes a key planet in the horoscope, denoting the practical aspect of Makar/Capricorn and knowledgeability of Aquarius. Associating with Mercury in 10th house makes a Raja Yoga and 2nd Raja Yoga manifests with the exchange of Jupiter and Saturn (exchange of 9th and 10th lord). The 3rd Raja Yoga is prompted by the placement of Saturn and Venus together in the 10th house. And the 4th Raja Yoga is made with the relation of Mercury and Venus in the 10th house.

Understand that the role of Mercury and Saturn astrologically produces a personality to work in the fields of Physics & Mechanics or other technical pursuits. These Raj Yogas made Einstein so distinctive, magnificent and distinguished that he became a historical personality.

Birth and Initial Years: How many people know that he was born with an abnormal head and misshapen body to Hermann Einstein and Pauline Koch in Germany in 1879 – Isn’t it an auspicious sign of Lord MahaGanesha? The reason is Mercury the Lagna lord is combust in 10th house in Pisces with Saturn, Venus & Sun. The affliction to Mercury from both Sun (combustion) and Saturn had slowed down his physical growth besides this Mercury mahadasa was on during his birth.

He learned to talk so late that his parents were afraid that he is mentally retarded. Second house lord Moon is in 6th in debilitation and Rahu’s affliction to 2nd house being the main reason of this. It was only at the age of 9 years that he became fluent during Mercury-Saturn because Saturn has an effect on his speech i.e. 2nd house since Rahu is in Saturn’s house in 8th directly aspecting the 2nd house.

Education: His education started in Mercury-Rahu sub-period in 1984. Rahu aspects the second house from 8th whose dispositor Saturn is well placed in Pisces in 10th house. creating  a graha yoga especially since Moon is the 2nd lord of elementary education.

During Ketu-Moon period he was thrown out of the school

In Ketu-Mercury at 17 years he got admission in Zurich Polytechnic Institute. Here

Mercury proved good for him in furthering his education.

Now the legendary mahadasa of Venus was to operate which would make him “person of the century”. He graduated in Venus Mahadasa and now the legendary “Malavya yoga” was on. He graduated in mathematics in 1900 in Venus-Venus period.

Jupiter in 9th house (trikona) and Venus in exaltation in 10th house (kendra) made him a renowned mathematician, which was needed for him to come up with inspired theories.

The Tough Phase: But success doesn’t come easily! Einstein too had a rough phase in his life during 1901 & 1902 while going through the Venus-Moon period when his father died and he had to put his first baby for adoption. Moon in debilitation had caused him much agony besides the transiting Rahu in Libra proved bad for his daughter. The karaka of father Sun and Jupiter were afflicted by Saturn and Venus in Sagittarius causing death of his father.

At last he got a break as a clerk with Swiss Patent office in 1902 during Venus-Moon. Though Venus is exalted Moon is in debilitation in 6th house so he had to start his career with a humble beginning. In January 1903 Einstein married Mileva in Venus-Mars period while Venus was transiting through the 7th house and Jupiter was in Capricorn with Saturn and Moon.

The Golden Period: It was Venus-Rahu period, which unleashed his belief in concurrence that mass and energy are different manifestations of the same thing – the theory of relativity was born and published in German physics journal. Venus had to give him dizzy heights but how Rahu played a lead role is miraculous! Rahu is “unknown” & “hidden” posited in Capricorn (earth house) working as Saturn with energetic Mars. So both mass and energy had to be related in some way or the other signifying that all the basic elements are manifestations of the same power.

He kept working rigorously on his research during the whole of Venus mahadasa. In 1916 he formally published his theory of relativity. His research had found the right words during Venus-Ketu wherein Ketu in the house of expression helped him do so. The Venus mahadasa work wonders to his career and makes him a world famous researcher.

In 1917, Moon again worked as an enemy making him seriously ill but in Sun-Moon sub-period the help had to come from the third house and his cousin Elsa helped him recover. In 1919, he divorced Mileva and married Elsa during Sun-Jupiter. Jupiter being the lord of 7th house gave second marriage since it was transiting through Gemini in retrograde motion caused the end to the first marriage.

The best period came in 1921 when he got noble prize in Physics but for “photoelectric effect” in Sun-Mercury. Sun in friendly Pisces had to reward him for his achievements and Mercury had to give the result of Neechbhanga Rajayoga. In perfect sync! He got success from foreign lands because Jupiter is in 12th from 10th house besides it exchanges house from Saturn also as Venus is his 12th lord of foreign lands.

Emotional Turmoil: In 1936 Elsa died in Mars-Mercury. Mars is 6th lord and Mercury is lagna lord 7th from 7th house creating maraka yoga for his second wife.

It was during Moon dasa that he started feeling emotional turmoil and attachment with Jewish people because of the wrath of enemy (Nazis). It is quite  clear that he went through this agony because of Nazi movement for more than 10 years during this period since Moon is in enemy house and in debilitation and its own house is afflicted by Ketu. This turmoil resulted in his permanent departure from Germany in Mars mahadasa in 1933. During Mars-Moon in 1939 he wrote a famous letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt (US President) indicating the possibility of Germany developing the atom bomb (enemy). Again his words got expression signifying 2nd lord’s importance.

In Rahu-Rahu he got US citizenship also got go ahead for nuclear research. Rahu was about to unveil its hidden power of destruction posited in 8th house with Martian energy from Saturnine substance. See the effect of Rahu-Saturn (almost double powerful Saturn) the substance is tested in Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing thousands of innocent people. The power of the Atom Bomb humiliated Einstein; he never thought of such destruction.

The Final Years: Seeing the fate of his research, he started suffering from health problems from In 1949 Mileva also died during Rahu-Mercury. Rahu is in second from 7th house and Mercury is the lord of 7th from 7th house creating maraka yoga for his first wife. Rahu that unfolded the hidden through him now has to give him results of the 8th house working as Saturn afflicted by Mars and Ketu.

Once again, in Rahu-Venus sub-period during 1953 he announced his Unified Field Theory and also renounced the Quantum Theory. It was Venus in its last bid to give him something despite his suffering health.

Yet his end was still to come! See the perfect sync of the maraka planets i.e. Rahu-Moon in 1955 when he suffered a severe heart attack and the legend was no more. The second lord Moon in debilitation once again played the spoilsport with the “unknown” Saturnine Rahu cruelly conflicting with Mars and Ketu. His further research of the “unknown”, “hidden” & “immortality” starts at another level.

One peculiar aspect is to be noted here; though Venus gave him the best of life but it paved the way for human destruction through Venus being his atmakaraka.
